Well, this is exactly what many people will sell you – curiosity. And without knowing it, you will actually click that link, believing it will lead you to the magic formula, silver bullet or whatever other sh*?t they call it these days.
And before you know it, you will have purchased a junk eBook, an online course or a monthly subscription that will bleed you to death out of your hard-earned cash and a ton of garbage to fill your computer.
Before long, you will realize that you were actually tricked into buying a pile of garbage that you will probably never use.
Next thing you know, you will begin to look for another product, thinking that perhaps you had made a mistake buying the first product. Again, curiosity will take over and this time you have in your hands a more expensive eBook or an online course and the cycle goes on and on.
Actually this is how people make money – offline or online it doesn’t matter. And it didn’t just begin with the internet. It began thousands of years ago when humans began to trade.
IT’S AN ART AND A SCIENCE AS ANCIENT AS THE WORLD…
It appears there’s no magic formula after all. You only need to learn a particular skill to make money.
That skill is called SELLING. But before you quit let me explain...
Selling is not just a skill – it’s an art and a science of understanding the psychology of human beings – how they think, why they behave in a certain manner, and why they take action.
Humans react to FIVE psychological triggers:
- PAIN
- PLEASURE
- PASSION
- FEAR
- FRUSTRATION
Actually, people think emotionally – not rationally. As humans, we are not wired to think rationally. It takes a great deal of effort to think rationally.
The saying goes, “action first, rationality later”.
In fact, as you learn the psychology of selling you will be doing exactly what the other people are doing to make money – selling emotions.
If you want people to buy anything, you must touch their emotions by connecting their emotions with the ‘thing’ you are trying to sell.
It’s harder to sell online than it is to sell offline.
For one thing, people don’t know you.
For another thing, people don’t trust you online.
And for yet another, they don’t trust what you’re trying to sell to them.
So you see, you’re up against many odds.
Therefore, the first thing you should do is to do exactly the opposite of what most people are doing – DON’T SELL ANYTHING.
Secondly, sell TRUST. There are many ways to do this. For example, on Quora you can begin by answering questions that build trust – without trying to sell anything. I made this mistake many times.
People will begin to ask you questions directly, about problems they’re facing every day in their lives.
This is the validation you need to know that people need help in certain areas of their lives. It’s now time to start thinking about how you can help them for a small fee. The solution requires research and due diligence.
For example, you can try to estimate the size of the particular market where the problem exists. This will give you an indication whether the market is viable or not, or whether it is sustainable. This principle applies whether you’re developing your own solution or you’re trying to sell another person’s solution (like an affiliate product, offer, etc.). The principle is the same.
The amount of the fee depends on the size of the market, the time and effort spent either developing a solution or researching another person’s solution or a market.
Just remember, you should provide a solution you believe in yourself or you have tried. People have sensors. If you try to sell something you don’t believe in, people will reject it. That’s why most people fail.
Now let’s go back to what I said earlier, that humans are not wired to think rationally – they think emotionally.
The world is littered with books that teach you to sell the features and benefits of a product.
A lot of the time this is the wrong approach, and do not get me wrong here. Feature and benefits have their time and place.
Connect your audience or customers’ emotions with your solution and you will make any amount of money you want – not just $100!
As said earlier, selling online is a lot more difficult than to sell offline. Selling anything online also requires another selling skill known as COPYWRITING.
Copywriting is the art of persuading and influencing people to take action through copy. In other words, because the people you’re trying to sell to are faceless, you must learn how to write compelling content to persuade them to take a particular action.
Copywriting is just one of the many skills you will have to learn to make money online, but also the most important.
In addition you will have to become good at it. Compare this with a toddler who is just beginning to learn how to sit, crawl and finally to walk on their own. These are the stages one has to go through to start making money online consistently.
Finally, when you make the money you will not even remember that you once had to struggle just to get by.
